Adding Your Signature On Your Digital Art

1. Make a new file at about 8″ x 8″ at 300ppi

2. You can probably chose any brush category but for your first signature brush I recommend the “Oils” category and then choose the “Flat Oils 40″ as your variant.

3.To the right of the variants click the little arrow and choose “Save Variant” and then give a name to your new brush. Why not name it My Signature.

4. Now click on the brush variant and scroll down to the bottom and you should see your new brush. Click on your new brush to select it.

5.Set your color to black and opacity to 100%. Now write your signature on the canvas. Keep writing your signature til you get it looking good.

6. Now choose the “Rectangle Selection” tool and then click and drag a square around your signature.

7. Go back to the little arrow to the left of the brush variant and click on it and then choose “Capture Dab” and you have now made your signature into a brush shape.

Before you begin though, do a couple of pieces; see how long it takes to create something you can sell. Do one as a 16x20 and another as a 32x40. Your speed and quality will give you a hint of where you fit. Don't make the mistake of pricing it to low. This is not the arena to be giving your hard earned talent away.

A thing to remember is that wherever you start, it is just that, a start. You should have regular price increases to keep moving yourself up the scale. This approach will also insure you keep up with the learning of new and better techniques, both because you can afford to and because you'll need to.

There are a few overall things I noticed, all the artists had a minimum size, which most often was 16x20. Next, the base seemed never lower than an additional $1,000 on top of the price for your best product. The last thing was it is not cut and dried. The pricing reflects the complexity of the art piece, both in the medium, (which was typically oil or water color) and in the subject matter (number of people, detail rendered in background.)

If you are artistically inclined and would like to create breathtaking digital artworks, then the new Corel Painter X is a must-have software for you. This new version of the Painter series offers increased speed, stability, and performance and several new creative tools all suited for the digital artist in you.

Speed has always been a factor in selecting a graphic program and with that fact in mind, Corel Painter X has been endowed with brushes that can go up to ten times faster than version VIII. This is an important feature that all designers are sure to be grateful of.

I originally wanted to write an article on the definition of digital art, and now I finally made myself write it. Digital art is art created with the help of a computer. This can be done in many different ways. A picture can be modelled in 3D and rendered, or art painted in the traditional sense with the aid of a tablet, or even a simple mouse (I really hope everyone reading this are sitting on a tablet though hehe). Pictures can also entirely be generated of the computer like with a program called “Apophysis”. This program can also help you with creativity in Corel Painter, if you are struggling on getting inspiration. It basically automatically creates shapes of colors with a click of a button. I have used it myself many times before painting pictures in corel painter.

With the computer's position in the life of all modern people, it has increasingly become more and more common to make digital art. 3D-graphics is conventionally used in many film productions. Digital photo editing has become standard in soon all said activities that process photographs. Vector graphic is standard for everyone logos and similar graphical design, and digital paintings occupy also an increasingly significant role in the society.

Digital request of pictures can be divided into three main categories. Pixel based graphic, Vector graphic and 3D-graphic.

Pixel based graphic builds on that the pictures are to be presented in a large number of pixel units, were all the pixels make up the picture with color information and everything. Most used software for pixel based graphic is of course Adobe Photoshop, but luckily Corel Painter has become a large competitor now.

Vector based graphic is that the images are made from mathematical calculations. This is a loss free kind of information, were the pictures can be peeled and translated without loss of information. That is why this type of technology is ideal for graphical design and logo creation. The most used software for this purpose is Adobe Illustrator.

3D-graphic builds on that the pictures are created as three-dimensional items that are stored with the aid of mathematical calculations. These pictures are usually made up from polygons or nurbs. Pretended light sources shine afterwards up on the objects you make, and the computer calculates how the items would be visible from someone’s obvious angle. 3D-graphic can today be done hugely realistic, and is used often within film and the compute game industry. I have played around with probably the most used graphic program of them all “3d studio max”, and I have to say it’s a lot of fun. I recommend everyone to at least try it once in your life. Very fun program but also extremely complicated and not for everyone. Remember it could be a cool idea to make something in a 3d program, and take it into a picture in corel painter and make something stunning!

Although the digital art already today is dominating within all practical applications: graphical design, commercial photo, film industry, gaming industry, and also illustration, it still hasn’t been fully accepted as adequate art form, in the traditional art world. This can to a large extent depend on inadequate understanding for the medium, common is the faith that it is the computer that do the entire job and that the creativity is undermined of the technology. The computer is however only a tool among others, brushes, carbons, clay. However I truly believe it’s only a matter of time, before it becomes a fully accepted art form around the world, from the group of people that today represents traditional art. Keep working on becoming a specialist on corel painter and you will become successful whatever your goals are.

I watched this video that other day, as I was surfing around on corel painter related sites. Wanted to get some inspiration for some new art work. Then I found this video, and it really got me exited about the RealBristle Brushes. It is so cool and flexible, you can really create some cool things with this. Real bristle brushes can give you some nice variations and effects, that mainly should be used for spreading paint over large areas. Like putting in the color of the ground, sea, or sky. So what are you waiting for, you should begin right away to experiment yourself with this great feature in corel painter! Who knows maybe it will become your favorite tool soon ;)

Many people ask me why I use corel painter rather than Photoshop. I'm sure many other painter users gets asked this as well. I always answer short and simple to those people if they have tried corel painter, and sadly the answer is usually "no". Then i follow up with giving them a link to download it and try it out for themselves. I have always wondered why photoshop has become such a popular program, when corel painter exists. In my opinion photoshop should be used for photo editing, and not for painting, as it cant simulate real life brushes as well. The new version of corel painter is really a brilliant piece of software people, and is strongly recommended. Also I recommend going to the corel painter gallery, to get inspired by the possibilities that are within corel painter.

Hello everyone. Its time to learn more about this amazing piece of software, that corel painter really is. This time we will take a look at some very interesting tools in the toolbox. If you are previously are familiar with photoshop, (And lets face it, most people think photoshop is the best program for digital painting. But we who have come to learn Corel Painter knows better. Personally I think Photoshop is the best program for photo editing, but NOT for painting ;)
you might wonder what those four squares beneath the "set foreground selector" are?
Well those are great effects that will might make any art more special. Ok, lets take a look at them shall we. I will try to explain this as easy as possible. This is NOT difficult at all I should add, this is definitely more for beginners, than experienced painter users.

Now lets start out with how to apply these special papers and effects. The first as can be seen in the picture above is the paper selector. Probably one of the most used of them all, especially for artistic people like us. This feature works in the way that you can basically change paper that you are painting on. If you want to draw or paint on a rugged and rough type of paper now you can! Its really easy to apply too. There are two ways of using this tool. The first way can also be seen in the picture above. Here I have chosen a colored pencil to draw with. When I then click on the paper selector and choose one of the papers, my pencil lines will be affected by this. The default white paper dont change, but when you draw the pencil will react to the surface of the paper, as there was a different type of paper there!
This work this way only on some of the brushes in the brush category, like for example the colored pencil.

The other way of using the paper selector is by changing the entire paper that you are drawing on. This can be done with first clicking on the paper selector symbol like before, and then click on the “effects -> apply surface texture” as the picture above indicates. Then more of the brushes in the brush category will be affected by the paper you have chosen.

Next up we have some effects that are treated the same way, in the sense of how you apply them. Im talking ofcourse of the pattern selector, gradient selector, and the weave selector. Depending of which one of these you want to use, you start out by clicking on either of them, choose a type, and then go up to the effects tab clicking on fill (or the shortcut CTRL + /).

Then you click on what you want to fill the entire white paper with, and then you have created something nice looking, by just clicking on a button or two.

Finally we have the last two options in this section of the toolbox, and that is the look selector and the nozzle selector. Both are easy to use too. With the look selector you can just click on it, and choose an effect. Then you will have a very special type of brush effect, that you can begin drawing with right away.

In order to use the nozzle selector you will have to select it, and then go into the brush category and select image hose. What this tool does, is simply to make your brush an image spraying pencil, that you send out all kinds of images nicely organized into your paper. You will be amazed how well this works, and I bet you will be downloading lots of extra of these pictures to have in the image hose later. If you are more of a old school artists however, this tool wont be useful at all. There you have it folks. A neat little trick

Hello all. Have you ever used Corel Painter or (Corel Painter evil and less good competitor
called "Photoshop") and wondered if you could change the shape of the pencil/brush tip.
Now here is the answer to do just that! Look at this image, it is very self
explained. But I can add that after you have done this, you should save up your new
costum made brush. So you can get it later on, if you want to use it again!
And also after you have pressed capture dab up in the right corner, you must
remove the marquee selection, or else you can only draw inside this selection. And that
is no good, since it is so very small ;)
Have fun doing this, I thought is was a cool little trick anyway, that maybe not all are
aware of. Can photoshop do this I ask? If you who read this knows, give me a comment on that
please!

The Hot Keys or shortcuts I use

When learning a new digital software like corel painter essentials 3, Photoshop, or Corel Painter IX, there are always a ton of buttons
to press in order to perform simple tasks.
And if you have to press all these buttons, and go into long menues everytime, you will work very slow. So its a good idea to try to have a good workflow, with the use of some shortcuts & hot keys wich I like to call them. The hot keys im about to give you, are those that I use most often in Corel Painter. And many of them can also be used in similar software like for instance Adobe Photoshop, so I will tell you if you can use the hotkeys in that program aswell. Where I dont mention Photoshop the hotkeys are different in that program, and I wont bother to say what it really is. Because you should focus on the best program of the two (painter ofcourse).
Lets get to it shall we, these are my favorite hotkeys:

1. CTRL + Z = UNDO (Same in Photoshop)
2. CTRL + Y = REDO
3. B = BRUSH TOOL (Same in Photoshop)
4. CTRL + F = FILL
5. E = ROTATE CANVAS
6. CTRL + / = USE LAST USED FILTER
7. ALT GR + ] = INCREASE BRUSH SIZE
8. ALT GR + [ = DECREASE BRUSH SIZE
9. SPACE + LEFT MOUSE CLICK AND DRAG = PANNING AROUND
10. CTRL + = ZOOM IN (Same in Photoshop)
11. CTRL - = ZOOM OUT (Same in Photoshop)
12 D = EYEDROPPER TOOL
13. T = TEXT TOOL ( Same in Photoshop)
14. CTRL + A = MARK ENTIRE CANVAS (Same in Photoshop)
15. CTRL + C = COPY MARKED SELECTION (Same in Photoshop)
16. CTRL + V = PASTE SELECTION (Same in Photoshop)

There you have it folks, my most used hotkeys. I know there are plenty more that is probably useful, but anyway those are the hotkeys im using.

One of the first things you should do if you havent done so already, is to find out what types of brushes you like. This is important, because there are so many brushes to choose from, and they will give you lots of different results. And before you can go ahead and create high quality art, you need to master a set of brushes. I really RECOMMEND that you do the following: Go to this site, scroll down to "Corel Painter-related goodies" and : find ROBS BRUSHES hereYou will seriously thank me if you havent downloaded these brushes before, they are in my opinion EXCELLENT ;)

I recently found another site that offer you some sets of brushes, that I havent tried out yet. I will download them instantly and try them out, you should do the same buddy ;). Then go here, drag your mouse over the smal menu-bar , and then the picture that comes up, and press download ;) I will go and do the same now, damn im excited, new brushes to investigate ;)

Corel Painter .... So whats all the fuzz about?

If you are completely new, and dont know a thing about Corel Painter. This post is for you.
Ok, so you know that almost every 2D digital artist you know uses Adobe Photoshop, but whats the deal with Painter, you may ask. And why am I so hung up on this program!? Here comes the answer =)

Some people prefer Painter because it handles very similar to real life art tools. Its so realistic that it gives a nice feel, that every artist new or skilled will enjoy. Photoshop has to me always been a more Photography/graphic design-centric software, and although they've added more advanced characteristics for the drawing/painting people, it is very digital and does not function like real life art tools. It's safe to say a personal preference thing. I prefer Painter for drawing & painting because the way the brushes react is far more dynamic than Photoshop's brushes.Painter has like I said a great resemblence to natural media tools: Pastels looks like a real pastel, watercolor looks like watercolor etc.

However, if it is graphic design and photography that you are after, I would recommend Photoshop because in that department Photoshop beats Painter by a long shot. Editing Photo`s while making lots of selections, cropping them and so on.. is a bit easier with Photoshop. But hey! Isnt it much cooler and more satisfiyng to create a masterpiece with some awesome brushes, that you wont find in other programs (as far as I know). That covers this Corel Painter training for today. I want to make a quick post about the history of this software program.
For a long time ago when I was searching on the net trying to find out where to buy Painter, I ran into a little problem. A common misunderstanding that many have. And that is: What is the difference between the program called Procreate Painter and Corel Painter? The answer is : NONE. Procreate IS Painter, the thing is that Painter was temporarily rebranded Procreate Painter during its transition into the Corel Suite of applications. But that time is over now, and the program is just know for Corel Painter, or just Painter among the advanced users. In addition it can be mentioned here, that in 2005 Corel released "scaled-down version of Painter developed for home users" called Painter Essentials 3.

Yes, so you say to yourself "Im totally new to this, whats the quickest and best way to learn this type of software!?". I must admit that before I became a true Painter fan, I too used adobe Photoshop. And they way I learned that program, was to watch their "Total training dvds". Then you wont miss a thing, it is professionals that go thru every aspect of the program, and train you up to master all the somewhat difficult techniques. Ok enough about Photoshop already. I meant to say that Corel Painter has ofcourse several professional training dvd`s aswell. If you want to get motivated to really learn and be a good digital artist. You could
just look at what this guy named Ryan Church can do with his copy of Painter.
Go to his website and have a look: Also get download his painter brushes, and his dvd`s are high quality as well!! You dont get much more pro than him. He has worked for all the big companies like Walt Disney Imagineering, Universal Studios, Industrial Light + Magic and so on and so on.
